The music legend says she is no longer looking for a relationship and would rather let life unfold naturally.

At 73, Chaka Khan has reached a point in her life where she says she is perfectly comfortable without a romantic partner.

In a recent interview with The Observer, the legendary singer was asked about the things she is still waiting for in life. Rather than reveal too much about her personal wishes, Khan said she prefers to let life happen naturally.

“I’m not looking for that. I’m partnered out,” she said.

For Khan, being single does not appear to be something she needs to change.

Two Marriages Changed Her Perspective

Khan has been married twice. She married Hassan Khan in 1970 when she was 17, but the marriage ended after a year. She later married Richard Holland in 1976, and they divorced in 1980. She has two children.

Looking back, Khan has previously spoken about how both marriages made her question whether her partners loved her for who she really was or for her public identity as Chaka Khan.

That experience appears to have shaped her current attitude toward relationships.

Rather than searching for someone to complete her life, she seems content to focus on herself and allow whatever happens next to happen naturally.

Her statement is also a reminder that being single does not necessarily mean being lonely.

For some people, relationships are an important part of happiness. For others, peace, independence, family, friendships and personal freedom can become more valuable with age.

After decades of performing, recording music and living much of her life in the public eye, Khan may simply be choosing a different kind of freedom.

She does not appear interested in forcing a relationship just because society expects people to have a partner.

And perhaps that is the most important message behind her comments.

You Don’t Have to Keep Looking

There is often an assumption that everyone should eventually find a partner, get married or settle down.

But Khan’s perspective challenges that idea.

At 73, she has already built an extraordinary career, raised a family and experienced relationships that taught her important lessons. Now, she appears more interested in enjoying the life she has than searching for something she does not feel she needs.

Her upcoming album, Chakzilla, is scheduled for release in September, and a musical about her life and career is also running in London.

Clearly, Khan has plenty keeping her busy.
